Find in-ground yellow jacket wasp nest and hit it with SpectracidePro. Check.
Our neighbor’s son has been mowing our lawn for $20 and came across a hive while I was camping last weekend. He was stung once, and then his father was stung once while attempting to retrieve the lawn mower. They let me know the general vicinity of the hive. I did a broadcast spray of the area at noon to see if that would agitate them. It didn’t, so wearing a lot of clothing, I slowly and carefully combed the area for holes or entry points. I fortunately scored and hit the nest hard after about 45 minutes of combing the back yard. Score one for Michael.
There has been a rotting smell in the area coming from our neighbors shed, only it hasn’t been all that bad until last night. This morning I went out looking for it. Fortunately the neighbor was outside in his shed. He immediately said to me “I know what the smell is you are looking for. There was a dead groundhog in the road and the lady from across the road came over to me and asked me what am I going to do about it. So I put it into my compost.” I replied with “Well, the smell is overcoming my home.” He apologized, I said it was no problem and that I was happy he knew where it was coming from and that I, nor we, had to do any kind of crawl space investigations, poison ivy infested wooded area searches, or the like to resolve the issue. Score two for Michael and the neighbor.
