Elizabeth and I did not make it in time to see the two opening acts of Orbital Decay followed by Ministry Of Inside Things. We arrived just at the final portion of MOIT but decided instead to get dinner after sitting in what had to be some of the worst Saturday afternoon traffic I have ever experienced on 76 East. There was a pile up of cars and SUVs, which we were unfortunate enough to see, at the on ramp of 76 and 476 which was the cause of this traffic nightmare.
We arrived and checked in, went to an Indian food restaurant to eat, relaxed for spell after our meal, headed back over to the Iron Gate and purchased some of the artist’s media. Headed into the theater to watch and listen to Jeff Pearce get sound checked and then about a half hour later Jeff was on.
Jeff started his set with a track comprised of some of his more familiar tracks and worked his way into some new ones to be released.

He also played some tracks on his Chapman Stick… without, of course, his show would be incomplete. I prefer his Chapman Stick compositions over his six string compositions. There is nothing like his soaring ambiance.

I was even able to snap a short video of his Chapman Stick work.
While they were breaking down Jeff’s gear and setting up Robert’s, Chuck Van Zyl, the host for tonight’s event and the host for Stars End started talking about the history of the Stars End radio program. One by one he listed each host or person that contributed some essential piece to Stars End and had them come up on stage.
Seen below, from left to right, is a photo of these people including the founder of Stars End, John Diliberto, who now hosts the syndicated radio program Echoes. Next to John is Floyd Miller, Gino Wong, Jon Andrews, Kimberly Haas, Jeff Towne, Chuck van Zyl, Dave Maier, and Gart DeThomasis.

Then it was on to Robert Rich’s solo performance to mostly promote his latest release Electric Ladder and a DVD entitled Atlas Dei. Atlas Dei is the exact mind-blowing video I wrote about the last time Robert came to Philadelphia. You bet I picked up a copy, or two ;-)

And finally, the highlight of the evening. Ian Boddy and Robert Rich performing live together for the first time ever, anywhere on the planet. Quality of these videos is horrible I assure you but unfortunately a moment like this really couldn’t be captured any better with the means I had at my disposal.
And finally, some stills of Robert and Ian.

It was a fun night. Although too stressful getting there, in a venue not worthy of such talent and skill yet as always, all worth the trouble for the music. Thanks Stars End!
